About

Hotspurs Soccer Club is a Pittsburgh, PA area youth soccer club founded in Sewickley in the 1980s, with 1985 as its first official recorded year, and was one of the founding teams of the PA West Classic league. The club runs a phased development model spanning a Foundation Phase (U8-U12), Youth Development Phase (U13-U15), and College Prep Phase (U16-U18), with a 12-week fall season, 12-week winter season, and 9-week spring season. Under Tom Ovenden, who joined as Academy Director in 2016, the club grew to 450 athletes ages 9-19 by 2019 and expanded to a second academy site in Butler, PA. Hotspurs launched a men's NPSL first team in 2019 and, through a November 2019 merger with Steel City FC, took ownership of a WPSL women's team, describing itself as the first club in Pittsburgh to provide a full youth-through-adult pathway for both male and female players; it joined United Women's Soccer in 2021. Coaching locations mentioned include Harmar and Butler, with a Hotspurs East site beginning fall 2022. The club also runs summer training programs and community camps across the region. The homepage now announces that Pittsburgh Hotspurs and Arsenal FC of Pittsburgh are Steel City FC.
